Definition
A controlled vocabulary arranged as a hierarchy, in which each concept has a broader concept above it and narrower concepts below, so that a thing can be classed by walking the tree.
How we use the term
A taxonomy carries hierarchy only; a thesaurus adds associative relations and notes.
