Definition
AI that produces text, images or code by learning statistical patterns from large bodies of data (connectionist or neural AI; large language models are its best-known form) and generating what is probable given a prompt.
How we use the term
It predicts what is probable rather than retrieving what is true, which is why it needs grounding and why it hallucinates.
