Definition
In cataloguing, the record in an authority file that establishes the authorized form of a name (a person, an organization, a work, a subject), the variant forms it is not, and the sources consulted, so that every reference to the thing resolves to one heading. Applied to a business, it is one verified master record of who it is, what it does and what it has proven, kept true and published everywhere machines look.
How we use the term
The firm's product, The Authority Record™, is this idea applied to a business. The product is not a concept: it points at this one, and this page lists it. 'Your public system of record' and 'one verified master record' are the product's plain-language names.
