An Ontario credit union: Gaining category authority from one verified Record.

Huckleberry Way built a system of authority for a member-owned credit union with a head office and eight branches in Ontario. At its centre is the credit union's public system of record, The Authority Record™: one verified master record, published to its Google profiles, posts and listings and, in a first phase ahead of its new website, to a page for the head office and every branch.

From it, the credit union is gaining category authority: the top two on Google when people search for a credit union near them, 4.6 times the clicks to its branches, and from June to September 2026, 285 percent more citations in Google's answers and 198 percent more visits from Bing to its location pages.

The client

Chosen for what it stands for.

For decades, the credit union has helped members, investors, community organizations and farming families bring their values to their finances. The people it serves, and those still looking for a credit union like it, now start with a search. Its opportunity was to own its digital front door: found and chosen for what it stands for, as much as for where its branches are.

With the credit union's main website about to be rebuilt, Huckleberry Way rebuilt and ran the Google Business Profiles, helped generate new reviews, and isolated the first structured data rollout on a set of branch location pages, live at the end of May: a page for the head office and one for each of the eight branches. The head office page carries the record of the whole credit union, and every branch page links up to it, so each branch also speaks for the credit union as a whole.

02 · The proof

The complete record made the credit union citable, branch by branch.

Structured data drove the difference. In July, the head office page had complete structured data; the eight branch pages didn't. Google's answers cited the head office page six times as often as an average branch page on the same site.

Once the branch pages were fully structured, in July, their citations jumped 146% by August, and 262% by September. The head office page, already complete since May, rose 8% over the same months, serving as the control.

Search tells the same story.

Clicks from Google search to the credit union are up 31 percent since the location pages launched in May, as more of the people searching for it click through, to the main site and the new pages alike.
In the same year, 63.8 percent of Canadian Google searches ended without a click (SparkToro and Similarweb, June 2026)

Searches for its branches now bring 4.6 times the clicks they did, most of them demand the old branch finder never reached, and visitors who reach a branch page from its Google Business Profile engage 97 percent of the time. Beyond AI answers, the location pages rank at the top on Google for searches such as “credit union near me” and “credit union”.

03 · How it got there

One Record, published in two steps.

The brief was to own the digital front door, so that the credit union's mission reaches the people it serves where they now look first, as one brand. Huckleberry Way rebuilt what it already had from the Record, the profiles, posts, reviews and listings, and rankings, reviews and discovery moved before any structured data existed. Then the Record went onto a page for the head office and every branch as structured data, and that is where the steepest climb began. The main website comes next.

    The website

Pages for the head office and every branch.

What comes next

Every result above came before the Record reached the main website. What comes next builds the foundation under them.

The website

The whole credit union, on the record.

The location pages carry the Record today; next, every page of the main website does. That puts the whole credit union on the record: its people, from the board to the advisors who know farm succession and responsible investing, each with their experience stated; its memberships and partners; every product and service, named once and described the same way on every page; and every fact tied to the source that verifies it, so a machine reads one credit union, in depth, wherever it looks.

The proof

Member evidence, linked.

Members’ stories and reviews written into the Record against the services and branches they prove, through The Proof Engine™, so a recommendation has proof behind it.

The feed

The Record, published as a feed.

Every change to the Record goes out as a feed, so the credit union’s profiles, posts and pages, and the machines that read them, carry the same facts the day they change.

04 · What it means

What it means for the credit union: a mission that reaches, and an investment that compounds.

Every recommendation starts with being found. The credit union is now found wherever people search: at the top of Google for its name, in the top two when people search for a credit union near them, and cited in the answers Google now writes.

That is category authority, gained branch by branch, and it carries the credit union's mission to the people it uniquely serves at the moment they decide; every answer that names it correctly builds the trust it takes to be recommended. And it compounds: the channels it already runs work harder when its name is known and trusted before anyone clicks, and its marketing team reports its recent advertising performing well above expectation.
‍

Everything so far came from the Record's first layer: who the credit union is, where it serves and what it stands for. That first layer answers the first of the two tests every AI system applies: ranking gets it considered. Next, the Record grows to its services, its people and its members' stories, the proof that answers the second: verification gets it recommended.

05 · Questions

Questions about the credit union's AI search visibility.

What did Huckleberry Way build for the credit union?
Huckleberry Way built the credit union's Authority Record, one verified master record of the credit union, its head office and its eight branches, and published it through nine rebuilt Google Business Profiles, about twenty structured posts a month, a page for every location carrying the record as structured data, consistent listings and Smart Reviews.
Did structured data change the credit union's AI citations?
Yes, measurably. From June to September 2026, the nine location pages carrying the credit union's Authority Record gained 285 percent in Google AI citations and 198 percent in Bing visits, while the main site, without it, held roughly level. When the branch pages' structured data was completed on 31 July, their AI citations rose 146 percent in August and 262 percent by September, while the head office page, already complete, rose 8 percent.
Did the new pages take traffic from the credit union's main site?
No. Both gained. From May to August 2026, clicks on searches for the credit union's name rose 17 percent on the main site itself, and the new pages brought almost half of the total gain. The credit union now holds two results on branch searches.
How did the credit union reach people who were not searching for its name?
Huckleberry Way modelled the credit union's key themes, from farm succession to ethical investing, and posted to them on a calendar matched to member demand; its ranking on those themes rose 50 percent on average. The new location pages now rank in the top two on Google for searches such as "credit union near me" and "credit union".
Does this work for other multi-location businesses?
Huckleberry Way builds the same system for multi-location businesses of every kind: one verified record of the brand, a distinct identity for every location linked to the one organization, and the record published wherever AI and search look. It starts with the free AI Readiness Report.
