01 — The client
Excellent Sign Group designs, builds and services Electronic Message Centres, architectural signage and wayfinding across Ontario. Twenty-two national awards, six decades of project work, and a client list won by referral among industry professionals.
That standing was legible to people who already knew the company. It was not legible to a procurement tool, a Knowledge Graph entry or an AI Overview.
At a glance02 — The challenge
Sign design & fabrication · Canadian mid-market · procurement-led buying
As procurement and discovery behaviour shifted toward AI-driven systems, Excellent Sign lacked the verified authority and structured infrastructure its expertise deserved.
Google's Knowledge Graph, AI Overviews and the data layers automated procurement tools query were not reflecting the full weight of what the company had built. A multi-year brand-name discrepancy sat unresolved across the web, so the same business appeared as two conflicting entities; citations disagreed with each other, and nothing corroborated the awards, certifications or service area.
An AI system does not penalise an unresolved business. It simply declines to recommend one, because it cannot confirm what the business claims.
Reputation earned offline was invisible to the systems now doing the recommending.
03 — The strategy: Authority Foundation
One knowledge architecture, structured across six building blocks. Each block produces an artefact the next one builds on, so the foundation compounds rather than resets.
01
Aligned the brand's sixty-year history, awards, trade certifications and project portfolio with the structured vocabulary Google uses to categorise businesses, so the Knowledge Graph reflected the company's actual expertise and geographic reach.
02
A thirty-page competitive and authority gap analysis benchmarking Excellent Sign against regional and national competitors, redefining the value propositions, and identifying which structured signals would most accelerate entity recognition.
03
A full audit and reconciliation of NAPU data across scores of platforms and structured sources — including resolving a multi-year brand-name discrepancy that had split the business into two conflicting entities.
04
A library of structured, localised case studies building proof points across specific regional markets, feeding the corpus AI systems query when they evaluate expertise and service area.
05
A CASL-compliant reputation engine, hardware and software, capturing structured reviews at the point of service with documented opt-in — a compounding layer of social trust that reinforces entity credibility.
06
A website information architecture and knowledge-graph framework optimised for AI indexing and procurement teams, so the entities established in Phase 1 map into the new site rather than reset. The owner's manual for whoever builds next.
04 — The system, in the field
The geographic spotlights publish as Google Business Profile posts against the questions Ontario buyers actually ask. The review system asks for the review by text and email, from the person the customer already dealt with.

One Province, Many Rules

Both carry two names: the customer's, and the Excellent Sign contact they actually dealt with — here Mazin Elzeini, Customer Success Partner. Eight templates cover the sales team and points of contact, so the ask arrives from a person rather than from a brand. Consent is documented at the point of service, which is what makes the review layer CASL-compliant and the volume defensible.
